Fitness and rehab swim
Resistance without impact, in an 88°F pool, with an AEA certified instructor and aquatic personal trainers.
When land exercise hurts the knees
Running, jumping and loaded workouts put the weight of the body through the knees and joints. AquaSkills lists three groups who need resistance without that impact: people with arthritis, people coming out of physical therapy, and runners with sore knees.
The pool at 88 Fulton Street is 15 feet wide and 60 feet long, heated to about 88°F all year. Every session is one hour, and the program is open to all ages.

What a fitness swim hour holds
The program covers rehabilitative swim, weight-loss swim, and lap swimming with stroke definition. Water aerobics and aqua-pilates exercises are combined with swim skills, so the hour is a workout and a swimming lesson together.
AquaSkills has aquatic personal trainers for students who want a plan built around one goal, whether that is recovery, weight or distance.
Lori Pailet, AEA certified
Lori Pailet, director of AquaSkills, is certified by the Aquatic Exercise Association (AEA). Her background is modern dance, ballet and Hatha and Kundalini yoga, and the school's own line about the water reads the same way: moving in the water is like sculpting and dancing as well as a meditation.
The $98 intro class is a real one-hour class, private or semi-private, and you decide on a package after it. Text Lori at (646) 724-7024 with your name and cell number.
Every AquaSkills instructor is an American Red Cross certified lifeguard, with CPR, AED and First Aid. Text (646) 724-7024 or call (212) 206-6976.

Three measured statements about the water
- 01
Water takes impact out of exercise.
- 02
Water reduces body weight by 90%.
- 03
Water provides resistance in all directions.
If you are new to the pool, begin with adult swim lessons. Swimmers training for a race can go on to stroke and triathlon coaching, and anyone who dreads getting in at all will find the first steps under overcoming fear of water.
